It was a joke of an externship opp. The interviewer was a rising senior from UT Austin who was late and very unprofessional. Unpaid, and they're using you for sourcing leads. Seemed scammy because a college kid ran it. I was never contacted by anyone from BV.

It's literally a sourcing internship and when they hire people as analysts/associates that's the majority of the job... not sure how that's scammy. But would agree, with it being an externship it doesn't always draw the highest quality applicants.

The externship is run by a Principal at Battery. He has analysts and full-time interns do some of work in running it. But the Principal has weekly meetings with the externs over VC curriculum and gives advice on how to source startups - which is one of the most important skills for venture capitalists. Battery hires their full-time summer and off-cycle interns directly from the externship, which feed into their analyst program. The externship is a great opportunity to learn foundational skills sets in VC, and have heard great things about it from people who've been in the program.

Since it's unpaid sourcing it can come off scammy, but you learn foundational skills and get reps on how to source good companies. The more you put in the more you get out, imo.
