interviewing for PE/VC/HF... while being an IB analyst?

Can someone explain to me how people interview at firms while they are an analyst. Are most of the interviews over the phone until the very end? Do they understand if you have to cancel last minute? Do MD's accommodate you? Are interviews on the weekends? What if your interview is in another city??

...bottom line, interviews for these positions are often lengthy, and if you are interviewing a more than one firm....and working as an analyst? How does an analyst schedule all this??...How long is the interview process, do things happen very quick, or is it a long drawn out process??

Interested in this as well...

I'm expecting people to rehash the typical answers we see on here: "use your sick days" or "save your emergency cards" etc but I think the OP raises some important points for us to consider that go beyond these so called tools. Very keen to see what develops.
