Trying to get a job at a small VC with no non-GP employees
Title says it all. Roughly $300m raised through both fund I (2015) and fund II (2017). They’re 6 GPs deep with no junior employees.
I’m talking to one of the GPs tomorrow and want to work there eventually. How would you test the waters, or would you outright ask on the first call if they’ll ever hire junior employees?
are you still in school? If the call goes well, you could ask at the end if they might be open to/looking for interns for the summer or whenever
No I am three months into a job doing sector specific PE DD consulting for the same sector as the VC fund I'm talking to.
In that case, I'd just consider emphasizing that you're really interested in what the firm does and that it'd be great to stay in touch if they are ever looking for junior level guys down the line. Assuming the call goes well, that'll keep the door open for you to follow-up with them after you've spent some more time at your current firm (seems like there are transferable skills from a DD perspective) and they might even reach back out to you before then
