VC out of Undergrad vs IB
Im wondering what the pros and cons are of going to a top VC in their analyst class vs doing two years in IB and then making the switch to VC. I know I want to hopefully be in VC, and i'm not sure if I should put a lot of effort into VC recruiting
Would not recommend going into VC out of undergrad unless you truly join a top tier fund. Most VCs are pretty jank, especially ones that hire out of undergrad, and you won't be able to transition upstream because the skills aren't transferable.
thoughts on a place like insight ventures vs BB?
Familiar with Insight. Would definitely take Insight over a BB. They've been growing increasingly larger funds and do all sorts of deals: venture, minority growth, buyout. You might start off as a sourcing analyst at Insight, but so long as you stay on the investment team moving up, you're golden.
wow thanks for the info. How long is one typically a sourcing analyst? is it 2 years? and if you successfully 'source' do you then follow the company along the deal process or is it back to sourcing for other companies?
