What do VC analysts do? How do I land a role?
I’m trying to get a clear picture of what it actually takes to land a VC analyst role and what the day-to-day responsibilities really look like.
From what I understand, analysts do a lot of due diligence and market research — but I’m not totally sure what that means in practice at a VC firm.
A few questions I’ve been thinking about:
- What does due diligence actually look like at your firm?
- How do analysts participate in that process?
- What kind of market research are analysts typically doing?
- What does the full diligence process look like from first meeting to investment decision?
- What are you expected to already know coming into an analyst role?
Also for someone trying to prepare:
- What kinds of projects would you recommend doing to build real market research experience?
- What kinds of projects help someone learn or demonstrate due diligence skills?
- How can someone simulate or practice what analysts actually do before getting the job?
Trying to move past the vague advice online and understand what skills and preparation actually matter before applying. Would appreciate any insight from people working in VC or who’ve gone through the process.
