Academic Credit at Unpaid Wealth Management Internship

Hey, so I got an offer from a Bulge Bracket firm for an unpaid wealth management internship position. They insist on giving academic credit for the internship (probably since it's unpaid). Only problem is my school makes you pay to receive academic credit, and makes you jump through hoops to get it.

Does anyone have any experience with receiving academic credit for internships, and if so what was the process you had to go through?

at my school, I had to write a paper summarizing my experience at the end and provide my school with progress reports, ie what stuff I was responsible for. also, had to get it approved through the academic center to make sure it aligned with whatever classes I was getting credit for. I didn't have to pay for the academic credit though. also was able to get paid at the internship. I know some schools allow either salary OR academic credit.

The application papers -- yes. But wouldn't you want to know whether or not you'd receive credit for it before you started the internship anyways?
