Breaking into a junior or entry level Asset/Wealth Management position.
Hello WSO Community,
I've been trying to find ways of breaking into the finance industry- possibly asset/wealth management, however, I don't have a background in finance/econ (I work in tech. and have for the past 5 years). I do a lot of self study on finance, love staying in the loop with all the finance news (practically everything I read is either deal breaker, deal book, wsj, or...sports) and have a good understanding of investing and trading (I do some on the side). How can I make practical steps to get a job in this industry? I would be totally fine, if not, super grateful for an entry level position.
I know I have to start from the bottom but that's fine! I need some advice, resources, and starting points to guide me along.
Thanks so much.

I'm a graduating senior from a non-target, i just accepted a position as an Analyst for WF Capital Finance in their Trade Capital division (please refer to page 10 in the above link, the position is a mixture of "Asset Based Lending" and the "Trade Bank").
I am also studying for the CFA (L1 in June). The role at Wells Fargo would be for two years.
Do you think with this experience and a CFA I could leverage an AM position in 2 years?
FYI- Wells has AM, Wells Cap. That seems like a tough transition to me. It's def possible, but wholesale banking is an entirely different world. The CFA would help, but you would have to get in via luck or networking. It would not be an obvious transition with that experience (like IB->PE, etc).
