FInancial Solutions Advisor career prospects?

Hello everyone,

I am new to these forums, and I would greatly appreciate your knowledge/advice on this matter. my question is, what sort of career prospects are there for Financial solutions advisory at firms such as -Merrill Edge? what are the day-to-day job tasks like?

It's not what I particularly like to do with my career, but I'm thinking such an opportunity might help me get my foot in the door into ultimately a career in Investment Banking/Investment Consulting and the like, after I start and complete my CFA.

Many thanks.

As an FSA, you are basically in sales. The CFA is going to be more suited towards being an analyst at an Asset Management firm, not so much for IB or Consulting (although it could definitely help). I'd say from an FSA role, you could make the transition to an investment analyst role at a private bank and eventually work your way into asset management (mutual fund analyst/hedge fund analyst, etc.), if you end up liking the investment side. To make a direct switch to IB or consulting, you might want to use contacts within ML and start networking. An FSA to IB role is definitely not the traditional trajectory and may be difficult, but never let that stop you from pursing it if that is what you want to do.

My short term goal is transitioning to an analyst position at an Asset Management firm after completing a few level of the CFA while working as an FSA. how difficult to you reckon such a move would be? I feel like being an FSA would be a dead end career. my goal in such a job is the experience and the Merrill name for me to transition into a more fulfilling career, whether be it at Merrill Lynch or another Asset Management firm. I'd greatly appreciate your advice and knowledge in this topic.
