Would you mind discussing how you learn about the different roles of each division?

Should you know which departments you are interesting in before even applying, or do they determine the best fit for you depending on your resume and how you perform in interviews?

Thanks for any help.

Check out the "where do i fit in?" quiz on gs.com. It might help.

I would think that Capital Markets would be a better place to start. I was at GS PWM over summer in Asia and they had quite a few senior bankers who were from capital markets before making the transition. But if you want the broad exposure to financial products then do GS PWM. My personal belief is that PWM is the sort of career wherein exit ops arent as attractive over capital markets.
