PWM / Boutique IB internship- requesting region

Hi,

Rising sophomore in college hoping to get a PWM / boutique IB internship next summer.

I've done a software engineering internship as well as a marketing internship, but I want to get a finance internship on my resume next summer to help me with BB IBD recruiting.

I'm at a semi-target in SoCal (UCLA) and many people get into BB IBD every year and most who do have done a PWM or Boutique IB internship prior to that, but I'm a little concerned about being able to work near home in the bay area/ San Francisco for a summer internship after sophomore year.

Do you guys know from experience if there is flexibility in working in a specific region?
For example, can I interview in LA and request to work in SF, or will I have to travel up for each and every interview.

I'm pretty sure I won't have the resources and money to be able to stay in southern california for the summer, especially if the internship is unpaid.

Also it might be difficult for me to have to go back to the bay area several times for interviews at multiple places, especially if I'm missing classes and tests in college.

From your experiences, is there flexibility in choosing interview dates and requesting regions for PWM and possibly boutique IB internships?
