Are you impatient or worried about what they'll find in the background check?
impatient? and I want to know because I had an international internship prior to this. and I need to get in contact with my formal manager if they are running background check. Please HELPP
Background checks take a couple of weeks, give or take. The only thing you can do is contact HR or your contact there and ask where they are in the process. I don't understand...what's the rush? If you already accepted the job, you're in....
I just wanna know if how extensive the background check is because my formal boss barely speaks english and I want to make sure that his words would be similar to what I wrote in the resume. So I was just wondering if I need to get in touch with him
They did not get in touch with any of my previous intern supervisors. Like UFO said, send him a note to make sure he knows that ML might contact him. Take a chill pill and wait. I'm sure you have nothing to worry about.

Assuming you meant 'former' boss, it wouldn't hurt to let them know that they'll be contacted by your new employer, and that you'd like their help. This also assumes that you left on good terms and the boss is a cooperative person. For the most part, background checks just want to make sure you did the job you said you did at the company, and actually worked there....they don't dig too far beyond that.
For my PWM internship the entire recruiting process took forever. As far as the background check, don't worry about it. I had to get fingerprinted and I heard back in about a week that I was clear. As far as I know they only check your criminal record. They only care if you have stuff on your record involving fraud or violence. A drinking ticket doesn't matter.
Hey guys, didn't want to start a new thread on this. It's been about three weeks since I've submitted my fingerprints, and I still haven't heard back from my PWM firm yet (BB). Is this normal? Should I start worrying? I don't think I have anything on my criminal record (not that I'm aware of, anyway)...
Normal. You most likely were fingerprinted by a private company. They have to do the check on your fingerprints and report back to your firm. Your firm has to review the report. Then they have to clear you and contact you. Everyone one involved in the process has more to worry about than your background check so it can take a lot longer than you think it should.
If you don't have anything on your record don't worry about it. At most shoot an email to your contact at the firm to confirm that you have completed everything they need on your end.
Hey man, I was in all your shoes (well for FT in my case). I sent in my applications for the background check and didn't hear back for like a month and a week but it was no biggie (I guess the thought of losing something you worked hard for, multiplied by the rumors you hear on these forums puts one on edge).
I just want to reiterate, assuming you didn't lie or make something up that was significant you'll be fine. It's a pain in the ass to add a new recruit this late in the game.
Thanks, guys. I'm just starting to get a little bit apprehensive because my internship is supposed to start next Monday, haha...
Yea, i'm in the same boat actually. Doing a PWM internship at a BB, supposed to start this coming Monday and still havent cleared the background check.Been antsy all day, non stop refreshing my email. I really don't have anything to hide, and because this is to be my first real work experience in Finance, I doubt they're going to be calling my past high school summer jobs ( day camp, tennis club, etc). We'll see. Have people been turned down due to failing the background check for a PWM internship?!? I'd understand if it's for a legitimate full time position, but for this I was hoping that simply not having a criminal record would do.
You wouldn't happen to be working in New York, would you?
My internship is unpaid. It's basically free labor for them. I can't see them really turning somebody down unless they were a convicted pedophile arsonist.
^ Yep. Working in NYC.
I can see why a company would want to conduct a serious background check on a more legitimate position, but what is their to dig up about me? What are they gunna do, call the country club I worked at and ask "did so and so conduct private golf lessons from in the summer of 2009?!". Does it really matter? But yea, I'm an unpaid intern as well. I submitted my prints last tuesday and have yet to hear back. Starting to get real nervous, these things shouldn't take more than 1-3 business days at most!
In the same situation. Waiting on a background check for BB PWM unpaid internship in Canada. Its taking forever, I have been waiting for a week. I sent in my forms and stuff. I have a clean criminal + credit record. I have called HR a couple times, and nobody picks up. Second work experience except for a sanitation job at a coffee chain.
I don't have that much of a background to check on. I don't know why it is taking them so long. Start to get impatient because I hate watching all my friends starting to work, and me just sitting at home doing nothing.
Does anyone know why these take so long?
It takes so long because HR wants to be a b*tch and wants to call up all our past jobs to make sure we taught golf correctly or cleaned the toilets right at Tim Hortons. Give me a break.
I've only had one other job before. I never did anything wrong and my boss really liked me--so am I safe?
How am I supposed to know? With HR you can only be sure when you get the offer.

Ok so I am a freshmen and my first semester gpa was a 2.9..but this semester I wil have a 3.6+..and I have to give my resume for a pwm internship position. Can I put a 3.0 gpa..or will i get dinged during a background check?
You have a 2.9 so put 2.9 or omit your GPA. You could put something like "Expected GPA after second semester: 3.X." But straight up listing your GPA as 3.0 with no qualifiers is lying and should get you dinged on a background check. Granted, I don't know how intense background checks are for PWM positions so you may slip through if you lie but its a bad idea.
is it acceptable to put expected GPA after 2nd semester..has anyone actually done this..but by the time they call me for an interview (assuming they do) and actually do the background check..2nd semester will be over..so I will have a 3.2/3.3 by then..
Lying on your resume is always unacceptable. Definitely not worth it for a PWM internship - they aren't exactly looking for geniuses. Also, do not put "expected GPA" on your resume, please.
