Wealth management over PE
Wealth management over PE, what could be the arguments? How to justify it? What's good about wealth management? thanks

the argument is you can make a lot of money over a very short period of time, if you are exceptional. not the case in PE
Thanks a lot, but this is not very politically correct to say and appropriate for a first interview. Lol. Any other arguments? (I find it hard to justify but would be great if someone could help me)
"While I love the financials, I also love making a difference in people's lives and strategically planning for the future. I enjoy building long lasting relationships where I get to grow with the person and add value in their lives. My friends always come to me for advice on what to do with their money, not just WHAT investments but WHEN and WHY. I love being able to educate and help people make better choices for their future. I think this is really where I can differentiate, I can explain things to the layman investor who wants to be hands-off as well as the savvy investor who wants to talk P/E ratios."
Remember, Wealth management is a relationship business before anything else.
Thank you so much!
Small Cap PE vs Wealth Management Internships (Originally Posted: 04/28/2009)
Hey guys
I have an internship choice to make, and would love your input.
1) What I would call a small private bank in NYC - wealth management, min accnt size $10 mil, but they also do tax work, estate planning, family accounting, philanthropy management etc
2) Small Cap PE firm in suburban Philly - $5-25 mil deals
Neither will yield FT offers but Im wondering if the valuation experience at the small PE firm worth it come fall recruiting.
Thanks alot in advance
BTW, Im waiting to hear from a boutique bank that I will take over all others.
If the PE firms legit, do that. Commercial banking=back office. Smaller PE firm could have helping a ton on modeling, or if their deal flow is slow making a lot of coffee and cold calling sourcing deals. Plus Philly's a blast in the summer ha.
Small PE fund all the way. I am interning at a small private company and right now working on 2 PE Funds (both are $20MM). Responsibilities I get are freaking legit because my boss trusts me. PM if you have any question or want to hear more. But westfald is right, chances are 30-40% of your time will be cold calling and sourcing those funds (it's definitely good experience).
PE VS Wealth Management (Originally Posted: 01/28/2015)
Hi all, Currently got an offer for an internship in a WM firm, and although i was initially excited for it, I am beginning to have my doubts regarding Wealth Management. I hope to eventually get into PE and after further research, I can't help but feel that Asset Management is a better fit as compared to wealth management. WM seems like a job of an insurance agent, which is not what I am after. From what i gather, WM basically involves preserving and growing the wealth of high net worth individuals. Would AM be a better route to go into if i want to eventually get into PE, or are they both more or less the same? Also, what kind of jobs can someone with the skillset of a wealth manager do? Would anyone here care to shed some light on this?
Thank you.
How do you know you want to do PE? You haven't worked on a deal before.
in b4 people start flaming PWM.
I'd be surprised if people attack PWM. The problem is the question being asked.
