Citadel GE / Surveyor
Hi guys,
Any insights on 1st round "interviews" / chats with Citadel GE / Surveyor HR / Business Development people?
Interviewing for a position in London and wondering if only fit at this stage or any type of L/S stock pitch already?
Thanks,
How did it go? Got a call with HR at Surveyor tomorrow.
Just for those who find this thread down the road. My call consisted of the usual: Tell me about yourself, stock pitch (high level), biggest challenge ive faced, greatest accomplishment, greatest strength, and more general questions that tried to gauge who I am. Hope this will be helpful.
Note: This was for undergad internship
Depends if it's associate, analyst, or PM level. Totally different conversations.
Where would someone with 2-3 years consulting and 1-2 years PE experience slot in? Analyst or Associate?
Probably at the associate level for 1-2 years before getting Sr Associate role.
Thank you.
Anyone know when I should expect to hear back about next steps? I did the standard 4-hour modeling test with a pod at Global Equities about 2-3 weeks ago.
Might just be slow because of the holidays or they're still putting other candidates through the process, but I would still email BD. They have a direct line to all PMs.
Interesting. Thanks for the context. I guess that makes sense because of the holidays. From the PM / Analyst perspective, I just wasn't sure if they try to see candidates across the board or if the case study went well, they just put that person through.
I've heard it's just a couple relaxed rounds after the case study (meeting with Head of Global Equities / additional conversations with PM). Do you know if that's true? Is there a chance I can ask about past performance, coverage, potential compensation, etc.?
Yeah once you prove your technical chops it's not that bad usually, but depends on the team. Maybe you meet with an asshole analyst who's having a bad day and wants to give you a tough time.
I wouldn't ask about comp or hours at the level you'd be going in. You're expected to come in and learn, since you're not really adding any value anytime soon. Don't ask about performance either. They haven't been fired yet, which means they made enough money to keep Ken happy.
I would totally ask the PM about performance. I've seen guys hire analysts and get fired two months later. Don't assume anything.
Doesn't need to be aggressive nor on the first round interview. Get far along into the process, and when you've built some rapport, ask him generally about his background, tenure in the firm, how performance for him has been (and how consistent), etc. You should also sniff around and ask your network about the PM's reputation. Not just performance, but also as a boss.
Unless the guy's an idiot, he can't expect you to assess risks for stocks and not assess risks to your own career.
This is helpful context. How do you suggest figuring out a PM's reputation if you do not have a preexisting network in the industry? For banking analysts / PE associates, you don't really have any contacts to ask about a PM's reputation much less performance / how they treat their analysts.
A lot of PMs move from one MM to another, but it's not really clear why that is the case. They could obviously do poorly at one and have to transition to another platform or they perform extremely well and get poached. Does anyone have any insight?
Can you provide some color on the modeling test? 2nd yr BB ANL here looking to make the switch next year. Appreciate it
