During WFH, did you temporarily move out of your area?

I'm still WFH currently, and have been looking for a new gig at the same time. Recently, I've come across an opportunity for cheap housing in LA that seems too good to give up, near the beach, good area, an all-around good deal. Month-to-Month too.

I'm seriously considering it because I'm still WFH, my current market is pretty lack luster with opportunities, and I've been targeting roles in LA already, so I can only imagine being there  make networking easier.

I do think it can be a touchy subject with my boss though. If he says "ok" to it and then I end up in another gig in 2 to 3 months, I wonder how he'd view it. Any of you guys have advice on this situation? Comments about how the LA job market is doing right now?

I think there is probably some tax implications if you start living in a different state than where you worked previously. I could see where an employer could be justified in not wanting to deal with that.

Some states have payroll taxes that an employer pays. Employers have to pay into worker compensation and unemployment insurance systems in states where their employees work.

Even for just the employees withholding they have to set up the process with the new state and start sending them the withholdings.

for the most part it’s just more effort for the employer though some states may have higher payroll taxes.

(Was) living in major NE city here. Now I'm out. Ended lease, stored my furnitures in a self storage. My employer has no timeline on returning to office. The office is open but only a handful of people go in everyday because their WFH setting sucks. I don't see the point of paying rents in an expensive city.
If you have ulterior motives for moving out, I'd say do it. The world isn't the same anymore so you must adapt if you want to win.
