Targeting for Oxford MFE, GMAT 750, should I take it again?
Hi guys I want to ask whether 780+ GMAT score will make a huge difference in my application versus 750?
My GPA is not high, currently 0.08 below first honor, and will be slightly above first honor after this semester, so I hope a high GMAT score can compensate for that, but I don't know whether it still makes a difference when it comes to 750 vs 780+.
Anybody have some idea?
If you have a 750 GMAT do not attempt to re-take it. I don’t believe there is a meaningful difference between a 750 and a 780, let alone a huge one per your question. A 750 accomplishes your objective of compensating for your GPA.
Would you say the same for a 740 applying to the M7?
Haven't applied to b-school at any point, but from what I've heard we need to know more before making a judgment. In OP's case, he had a low GPA so he had to make up for it with his GMAT to show that he was academically capable. We need to know more.
I have a 3.9 and am working in BB banking. I hope to work in MM PE.
I'm going to refrain from giving advice since I really don't know enough and anything I saw would be me talking out of my ass. However, I would suggest you make a separate thread on this and I'm sure people will help you out.
No need to retake the GMAT from a 750. That score is above the averages at any program (MFE or MBA). If applying to a US MBA, a low international GPA (not on a 4.0 scale) is less concerning to admissions committee since it won't be included in the averages. At the end of the day, the admissions committee wants confidence that those they are accepting are capable of doing the work in their program. A 750 GMAT accomplishes that!
For business school, a 780 could result in some merit scholarship from a T10-T25 school that is looking to boost it's average GMAT score. But it likely won't make a meaningful impact on the admit decision at an M7 school.
