A female looking for a roomate
I am new to this website and a friend of mine told me many great things about it. I will be moving from the West Coast to NYC for Investment Banking analyst position starting in July. Have family members in the east coast but I don't know any young people I can room with in the city. It can get quite expensive and I am looking to pay around 1200ish/mth. Are there other females on this website who are looking for a roommate or know of anyone looking for one?
Or if you can tell me the best websites that would help out with finding one - I would really appreciate it.
Thank you
You can get an aptment for $1200 ... might not be huge but its doable
Craigslist is probably your best bet to look for roomates/apartment.
Looking for a roommate as well (male), just wanted to see if you found any good sources to find one. I've been on Craigslist and it's tough to filter for those who are looking for June/July starts. Most are immediate- Dec/Jan.
Craigslist, $1200/mth in nyc is a bit tight even with a roommate, but doable based on where you want to live and how comfortably... More realistically, probably $1400 for a nice-ish place.
Something you may also want to try... if you already have access to your analyst class contacts (probably closer to the date), can you ask them if any are interesting in rooming together. Some banks also let their analysts/associates sign up on forums like urbanhostess, where you can find people (and it tells you which firm they work for) to live with and everyone's neighborhood preferences. Less sketchy than craigslist, though for the most part, you'll find decent ppl on craigslist (just need to use your best judgment).

dont forget CL in other cities too.
Another good source is to check out the firms themselves where you might be working. The HR department sometimes gets involved and might have some other names. Just a thought....
Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the advice. I had a few people reach out to me and hopefully something will work out with them or asking the HR for list of some of the other female analysts to see their rooming situation. Thanks again!
From what I've seen, ~1200 should get you a pretty good (relatively) place downtown - if you have at least one roomie of course. the rental market is really cheap (again relatively) due to the economy. most people only start looking about a month before move-in.
