If you have a Math and CS degree, why go back for a masters? Tech firms recruit people working already, even if not in STEM. And you're in a well-respected industry with a good firm, I'm sure you'll get tech interviews
Solid point. There is a similar ‘target’ ‘non-target’ dynamic when it comes to tech recruiting as well and seeing as I am late to the game I thought it might make sense if I wanted to supercharge my transition to that career. i.e. go straight to FAANG instead of lateraling my way there eventually.
I think you’re dramatizing IB. Yes you work a lot and it sucks but you get amazing comp and exposure and branding. You can’t sacrifice 2 years of your life to achieve your longer-term goals? Tough to even say sacrifice when you’ll make $200k, have expensive work dinners and events comped, etc.
it sounds like you have less interest in STEM relative to IB->Corp dev/strat but are entertaining it as an easy way out
Needed this, thanks.
I think that is partly it. Another part of it I feel is a desire to be creative or make things ya know?
I think that desire going down the finance route won’t be satisfied until very late in my career when I am a decision maker. The trade-off there is I think being creative or making things at the end of the road in finance is a lot more significant than it would be going down STEM, but STEM you’re getting to do it the whole way.
