AM crash course

I'm a rising senior major in stats and minoring in finance, and I just recently became interested in a career in Asset Management. My previous internship experiences have all been in consulting, but I think I'd prefer a career in finance. I do trade a bit with my own money, and I've taken a decent number of finance classes.

I'm at a target school (think Dartmouth, Duke, Cornell) and have a competitive GPA (~3.7). How would I best prepare myself for interviews?

West Coast rainmaker:
Have you done any investing personally?

Yes, I've done a bit on the side (have about 1k in right now, should I try to invest more?)

Just show a track record, be able to explain your theses, etc.

Start networking, of course.

If your school has an investment club, it is probably too late to build a track record there.

Have your "story" and stock pitches ready. Get in the habit of sending a pitch along with your resume...they need to see some proof you are comfortable with financial analysis.

I know I have a lot of catching up to do, but I'm a complete beginner when it comes to theses, stock pitches, etc. Where do I start?

Well, why do you want to manage money? Do you know what that the job is like, day to day?

I would recommend the CFA, but the next exam is December...and recruiting is in the fall. It could show commitment?

Maybe I could mention that I plan to take the CFA in interviews (provided I get any)? I don't know too much about money management the basics. Are there more quantitative approaches that fall under AM? I think my good quant background might give me an edge there. Plus, the CFA would be (presumably) less helpful/necessary.

There are many positions like this, but for example:
