Am I too late to break into IB ??
Hi,
I know it's a weird or maybe even absurd an question but I am worried If I am too late to break into investment banking. I am 23 now and my Masters in Finance course will start only in Fall 2022. This means that when I graduate I will be 25, so is that too late to break into as a first-year analyst?
Maybe I've not done the proper research and I apologize in advance for that but I have seen some doing their undergraduate(along with some internship) break into IB immediately while there are guys like me who do masters to break into IB.So I know for sure that there will be 21 year olds as 1st-year analysts as well.
Would much appreciate some insight

I'll be 32 when I start as an associate next year, but I'll have an mba. You can make it in if you put in the time and effort to do so. I would start building relationships/networking now.

Thanks for response.Im just a noob when it comes to investment banking knowledge.I am late honestly and it kinda bugs me too.Like when I started researching about the field there were juniors who were taking up internships in my college that I was not aware of.I don't have a strong CV and lack relevant experience to apply to IB Grad Schemes.
So,someone told me it's better to go for masters so that I can buy time to apply to some internships and then apply to the grad scheme.Is that the right way ?
Also,Will a dual masters degree(MSc Finance and Management) benefit and make me a better candidate ?

I didn’t find out about investment banking until I was 28. I’d worry less about what others are doing and focus on doing what you can to break in. Chances are, most of those analysts will be out within two years anyways.
Personally, I’d apply to MBA programs over a MS finance. Not that what you are doing is bad, but banks typically favor MBA’s over MS Finance.
You are not late at all. I started my two years master at 24 and I will start FT in a EB in London at 27. Nobody cares and asks about your age.

no, genuinely no one cares. i worked at a large BB and there were folks at all age ranges. you cant really tell someones age all you see is your title
have fun working with the useless and hyper political mba associates though. every single one i worked with was a complete piece of shit except for the folks that came from Stanford (somehow they consistently are normal people that want to learn). try to work with someone that went A to A because you actually learn a lot from observing your manager, or work at a smaller firm
