AM internship to Fixed Income role

I will be interning at a small AM that deals specifically with credit markets/debt in Chicago this summer. I'm wondering if i could possibly leverage this opportunity to work in a fixed income analyst role in the future? It is my first internship and my goal is to eventually move into an analyst role in fixed income. Any recommendations moving forward?

Can you explain what they do?

Sounds like they manage CLOs & credit funds (so they invest in loans and bonds). If this is true, then yes, its directly applicable and you will be fine.

I'd keep in mind that most fixed income managers have very few seats and dont hire kids out of school in analyst roles.

I'd also look into leveraged finance banking & sellside research roles to maximize your chances. If they are indeed investing in loans and HY bonds, then you should have no trouble landing a job somewhere in the leveraged finance universe (which is broad, and includes far more than what we have already mentioned)
