Anyone live in Palm Beach County? Considering a relo and could use some insight

I am considering a lateral career move that would be based in Boca Raton for a substantial bump in comp. Coming from Boston, this will be a big life adjustment for me. I don't know anyone in South Florida besides a college friend in Miami which is a pretty decent drive from Boca. Im in my late 20s, single, enjoy the normal stuff: hitting the bars once a week, beach, staying active, dating, trying new things. I have been to South Florida a handful of times and know it gets HOT in the summer, but I'm willing to deal with that over Boston winters.

With all of that said, does anyone have any insight on where to live? Anything else i should be aware of? Thanks!

Delray Beach is probably a better area for someone younger but there isn’t a lot of nightlife in Palm Beach County. I find that Boca is full of too many old people.

I grew up in Palm Beach County and went to school in Boca so feel free to ask any specific questions.

Agreed - I don't have interest in living in Boca. I've been looking into West Palm beach, Delray or fort lauderdale. Delray seems to be the closest, but I'm afraid it has too much of a "small town" feel (this is speculation, I've never actually been there). WPB and Ft Lauderdale seem cool but are farther commutes.

Im not a huge nightlife person, I only like to go out once a week if that. I do like being walkable to nice restaurants, cafes, happy hour spots, etc. Do you think any of the areas I mentioned would be good for that? Also, how easy is it to make friends, dating scene, etc...does it vary by location?

Delray is definitely more of small town feel. Most of the action is down Atlantic Ave, close to the beach. I think the small town feel is more preferable if you want to live there and develop a career there, but that's just me. WPB and Fort Lauderdale are much bigger and more impersonal. There are lots of bars and restaurants down the Ave in Delray. It's weird in that downtown Delray is pretty nice but also like 2 miles from the hood, so be aware of that.

I would definitely visit all of them if you can in like a weekend trip and get a feel because they're different.

awesome! I'm thinking of a second home down there, just something small to get away from winters. proximity to Miami would be great, but open to other stuff. just love the food, culture, and vibe of south florida (not Ultra type vibes, I'm past those days).

I've only visited Boca, Miami, and South Beach, so am very uninformed about it all. any help is appreciated

Really depends on your age and personal needs/ wants. The three listed above are pretty different. Miami is more metropolitan and ghetto in my opinion. South beach is like young party vibes and not many people live there, usually just visit (Feels very touristy to me). Boca is an older crowd, more wealthy. But there are a lot of different pockets throughout South Florida with their own vibes, it would be unfair to classify all of miami as metropolitan and ghetto because its not like that. I would need more info on prospective spending/ needs/ wants.

The Keys and Naples are two spots worth looking into as well.

I guess I'd just like a good restaurant scene. I'm not a partier, but some good bars, cocktail lounges, and restaurants would be nice. I got the sense that there's not as much of that in Boca or that it's more bougie. I actually don't want luxury, I want laid back. I'd probably get a small ranch house or a condo/townhome rather than something big. I don't need anything really, I just want the food, culture, and weather. don't care about a boat slip, golf course access, none of that. just don't want to be in a crime laden area. my wife and I are in our 30's, no kids (yet, maybe ever?)

price wise, something like this would be great, idgaf how small it is - https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1240-NE-213th-Ter-Miami-FL-33179/440…. That said, I have no idea if this is in a ghetto part of Miami or what, hence my need for local advice.

I'm also planning on doing a road trip down there and just stopping at various towns from Vero Beach southward, so all suggestions are helpful, thanks!
