Applying to SA and FT positions at the same time

So I am one of the cancelled interns of Cantor Fitzgerald. I am able to intern somewhere else this summer but the position is not return-eligible. Right now I am not too sure about what to do recruiting-wise, and what I have on mind is applying to 2021SA and 2021FT positions at the same time. Wonder what's the WSO take on this?

Thanks!

Did this last Autumn, ended up with an SA slot (that I've still not heard anything about...). I'd say firstly think about your situation, if you are graduating this year and land a SA 2021, what are you going to do with that time? (I was going to go travelling but...).

It is annoying having to split applications for SA and FT, but some banks do not allow final years to do SA so that is a good dividing line. Here in the UK I didn't receive very many questions about why SA and not FT but these are easy to bullshit anyway.

Really it comes down to personal circumstance: if you are graduating this year (I assume) then do you have the money to do just an SA and wait for FT, do you have any plans for the inbetween period, do you want to do a masters? If not then can always go for broke and go fully for FT given that you do have an internship this year (experience + cancelled internship shows you got in before).

One thing to consider though is the impact of Covid on FT vs SA recruitment, but I am not in a position to give any advice about that. GL

I'm a transfer student so I have to overload to graduate "on time" (May 2021), and for the "in between" period I can probably just spend more time with my family and girlfriend.

As long as others have done it before I can probably pull it - thanks!

I did this after I extended grad date to re-recruit. If I got an SA offer I would stay in school an extra semester, if I got a FT role I would graduate on time. I got a lot more attention through SA apps than FT and during the SA interviews I mentioned my situation. Interviewers and HR did not seem to mind and I had separate interviews during Super days where 10+ people where there for SA and I was the only one for FT.

Managed to get a FT offer after applying to everything and anything. I did not network but I have a strong resume+profile.
