Bad internship performance, still put on resume?

So I did an internship this summer at a boutique IB and the outcome wasn't great. I don't like pointing the finger, but I worked for an individual who was terrible at communicating tasks(often gave few worded instructions) and got annoyed when I tried following up asking for further instructions.

He was also extremely bipolar and despite claiming to be a "mentor", would be the first to point out my incompetence by name-calling whenever he was in a bad mood. He would assign me multiple assignments but when I send him the first project he asked for, he gets pissed saying that's not what I asked you to do(assuming I should have the most recent one done first). He's in his 60s and donates to an Alzheimer's foundation, but I'm not sure if that's to blame for his memory.

All in all, I feel like I'd receive a really shit review due to tension between us over the past couple of months. We ended on a pretty bad note and I feel that if I were to be asked for a reference, he wouldn't have many positive things to say. Should I just leave the internship off my resume altogether?

If that is all you have experience wise, might want to leave it. Not sure how common following up with references is for people who are still in college. I don't think they expect much from your internships, they have interns and realize that you're not doing all that much.

Be the bigger man and ask the guy for a reference if it comes down to that - if he wants to give you a bad one / be a dick, that is in his court.
