Banana Valuation Techniques

Okay, it took me a long-ass time, but I finally noticed the new "Most Active Monkeys" section in the sidebar and wanted to recommend another section: "Net SBs per Comment" (NSBpC or NSB/C)

I know that's a mouthful, but I think it would be a pretty accurate way to indicate which users are the most helpful and/or hilarious. We calculate it as follows:

(Total Silver Bananas - Total Monkey Shit) / Total Banana Points

Other than the fact that we would have to set some sort of banana threshold of 300 or 500 points so that some user doesn't get two SBs on his first post and skyrocket to the top of the list, I think it's a pretty good metric. We could also obviously have a list of the users with the most negative NSBpC score too.

Maybe I'm just thinking too much, idk. Thoughts?

haha dude this is the definition of over thinking things.

Maybe I thought about it just the right amount:

happypantsmcgee = (207-48) / 3427 = .0464 Nouveau Richie = (76-3) / 555 = .1315

lol

CompBanker: (299-6)/3260 = .08988 Disagree, terrible metric.

I agree with happy that this is a bit too much, though admittedly somewhat funny. I have a bone to pick in that it seems that people are super stingy oftentimes with their SBs. I don't expect to get SBs all the time, but when noobs ask stupid/baseless questions and then you take time out (instead of mocking them or referring them to the search function as usual) to help them and they don't throw you a silver nanner, I often get annoyed. I give out lots of SBs so I also get frustrated when people quote a comment and are like "I agree, +1" and then give no nanner... it's weak...

Agree - I've been getting blue balled a ton lately. I tend not to post that often, so when I do bother to write it's usually pretty high quality. Give me the nanners!

lol

To take this excellent idea even further, we see that the highest possible score a user can get is .3333, as the denominator increases 3:1 with every marginal SB increase. Thus, we can divide the score I originally laid out by 1/3 and get a percentage off which we can create an index. Observe:

happypantsmcgee = .0464/.3333 = 14% CompBanker = .08988/.33333 = 27% NR = .1315/.3333 = 39% = Epic Win!

Totally joking guys. I think there's a definitive flaw with any index that says I'm more "helpful" than CompBanker or "hilarious" than happy. You guys keep doin' yo' thang with the original league tables, mmmkay.

Only a finance forum could this be proposed haha

this is hilarious....although I do have to say the metric would be interesting...issue now is we have so many damn blocks on the right side. I think maybe we could get more room if we combine the Monkey Rankings into one block

So you have one block that has sub tabs (like Forum Topic block) that is called WSO Member Rankings with 2 sub tabs, "Total Bananas" and "Most Active" ...then we could combine the SB and Monkey Shit leaderboard into one Block as Well and call it Users Choice or something like that....

will think about this...
