BB Pubfin vs MM tech
Would you join a legit public finance group at a BB over a legit middle market TMT/hcare/life sci group?
Base pay, signing, location etc all equal. I'm concerned that the exit opps after pub fin are too narrow, although it comes with a strong brand name on the resume. MM bank is decent and is (obviously) exposed to more types of transactions. Opinions, please.
MM bank all the way if you are talking about TWP ,piper, Cowen, type
Piper Jaffray all the way, as legit as it can get. It's well recognized name will open doors to top MBA schools and solid PE firms.
I'm pretty sure nobody in IBD/PE/HF considers public finance as invesment banking. Go with the MM shop if it's a recognized name (i.e. Jefferies, Piper Jaffray, Houlihan, Lazard MM, etc.)
Second this perspective.
Appreciate your support 12 years later bro.
I appreciate the answers thus far.
I won't disclose which, but consider BB as Citi, MS, BAML.
MM as Canaccord, Wm Blair, Cowen.
Does this change the perspective at all, and I apologize for not being as detailed earlier. Again, ty for replies.
uhh....seriously?
I can see why you reacted the way you did.
I meant to say: consider these as the BBs to choose from. In case you would consider one BB over the other BB or BB over MM, etc. That was the premise of my post; I didn't lay that out too explicitly so you can LOL all you want, homeboy.
I understand what you posted. It's funny that you considered Citi, BAML, and MS as a group because MS is significantly better than the other two. Anyway we already gave you the answer.
can i take a guess? how about BAML for the BB and canaccord for MM
if it's Canaccord, take the BB offer
i would say talk to the ppl in the firm and see if you like them. U're gonna spend over 80 hours with them, no point choosing the firm for its brand and then can't stand a minute in the office.
I completely agree with ZIRH. "Fit" is a two-way street.
If you're good enough, both offers will open doors.
Is it public finance or municipal securities?
Dont do public finance, it's not investment banking, you won't have exit opps outside of public finance. Take the MMM
Take the MM/boutique. I sure wouldn't take public finance over my job.
Take the MM/boutique. I sure wouldn't take public finance over my job.
What do you guys think about taking an internship in public finance? I go to a non target, and those are the only banking jobs that they recruit here for.
I've heard that people in public finance work less than other IB groups. Are we talking only 80 hours a week instead of 100? Or is it even less than that?
Public Finance is pretty Booring. Hours vary by the firm, but I doubt you work past midnight, except when RFP's are due. Bonus range is very weak in Munis. As someone said earlier, once you start with Munis, you end up getting stuck in them. Try it out for the summer, and see your career options from all sides before you decide to take that route.
