Realistic chance to break into MBB (3rd year summer intern)? - Toronto

Hi all,

I'm looking to see if I have a realistic change of breaking into MBB in Toronto (or any other office in Canada) for a third year summer internship.

My school is a top university in Canada, but it is not a target for MBB + management consulting firms.

Right now I'm pursuing an accelerated recruitment process because if my current firm issues me a return, it will come in September so I have to recruit over this summer.

Rotman? I think they post MBB internship opportunities sometime in October or November. Deadline is December. Interviews happen in Jan ish. By accelerated recruitment, do you mean Bain BEL program/McKinsey sophomore program? Those are specifically for diversity candidates. Maybe MBB firms recruit at Queens earlier just because queens students go on exchange in their 3rd year. I don't know if Rotman students can actually participate in that. So you probably don't have to worry about recruitment in the summer, just need to practice cases as much as you can. I think your profile looks great and you'd probably have a chance.

Try to reach out to some upper years/alumni who interned at MBB. They can probably offer some insights.

Thanks for your note - right on the school. For accelerated recruitment - basically (especially for Queens kids) they let some students pursue accelerated recruitment if they have a reason (i.e. exchange, competing offer). Because I'll have a competing offer some firms are letting me join in, in interviewing this summer
