Bluffing spoiled my chances at a BB
"Don't bluff. If you don't know something, say that you are not well-read on the subject. The interviewers are experienced people and can smell your BS from a mile away. Investment Banks don't function in this way. You are to be direct, concise, and accurate."
I got this review in a mock interview with a BB Associate, who helped me understand the interview processes at the BBs.
"If you're weak at something, don't bring it up, but if it comes up, be brave enough to say that you don't know. After all, if the interviewer considers hiring you, he wants to make sure he can trust you."
I've been a big-time bluffer. Some of my friends who have sat through my presentations in Humanities courses know it well. But after having such empowering insight into corporate structures, I understood why bluffing is downright stupid.
This bluffing culture is considered cool, and actually might spoil your chances
