BP Integrated Supply and Trading

I graduated from Industrial and Systems Engineering this past December and will be starting my Masters of Science in Finance starting Fall 2018. I just accepted the internship role at BP in their IST department. I am currently taking the semester off, which basically gives me plenty of time to prepare for my internship this summer- any tips on what I can do to get ahead are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
P.S- I have no previous internships or experience in commodities.

Trafigura have some good entry level literature although it's more from a trading house view than a major producer view, however it's still very relevant.

Flick through Oil 101, read the most relevant chapters (or the whole lot as you have a lot of time).

BP themselves release some good literature on the future of energy etc.

Other then that I would just enjoy the time off you have, there is only so much prep you can do as an incoming intern, and even then you wont be able to add value.

Yeah, you can't really do much to prepare except try to figure out what levers are pulled on to make money in crude and products trading. The Trafi stuff GMG mentions will help you understand what the big categories of arbs are, and Oil 101 will help you see the connection between a barrel of crude and all the products that come out of it (so a general understanding of crack spreads).

At the end of the day though, it's almost impossible to really wrap your head around what's going on without actually doing it on the job.
