Breaking Into Equity Research / Asset Management

Hi all, I am currently approaching my third year working as a Commercial Underwriter for Capital One after a two year credit training program and am hoping to eventually break into equity research or asset management. I graduated from a non-target school for both my undergrad (Mathematics/Actuarial Science) and MBA (Finance concentration) and am registered to take CFA Level III this year (postponed to December 2020). I feel like I am in a rut because I realize that my current role is not applicable to where I want to land and that this would be quite a career change. I also am in a city that does not have much opportunity in ER/AM, so the likelihood of relocating is very high; however, I do feel as though I have some of the pieces in place. Can anyone provide me with some advice as to what extra steps I can take to enhance my marketability in the recruiting process as well as enhance my skill set so that I can make a transition with my best foot forward? Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!
