Breaking into REPE without IB Background

Hi everyone -

Any advice for how to break into REPE? I know one way is to start out on a real estate desk in IB, but I was wondering if people have taken/know of any nontraditional routes.

For background, I just graduated from from a target school and have a decent GPA. I am about to start an analyst position where part of my job will be real estate related valuations (keeping this vague on purpose), but I know no one who has worked in this position and who has gone onto doing anything related to REPE, so I imagine getting a job in REPE after the one I'm about to start will be quite difficult...

Thanks in advance!
