Brown vs UChicago for undergrad?
I'm just a lower middle class kid in the Midwest. I'm not super smart, I'm lucky plus a lot of chutzpah, I guess. Where should I go? The challenge of Chicago sounds alluring, but I know I can't hang with any kids there, so will I be treated like an idiot ... or will intensity actually force me to grow the most there? In contrast, will I grow the least at Brown? I have no idea what I want to do or major in. Becoming a banker, marrying a cute ambitious wife, and making enough to donate to causes in my hometown would be ideal. Thanks!
The two schools are polar opposites; one has a core curriculum and is known for its intensity, the other does not and you can pass/fail most classes. Not sure why you're having such a hard time deciding.
Exactly. Brown is doormat of Ivy League. Rich dumbasses who want Ivy credential but don’t want to work hard. Chicago is for very smart, very intense people who will be worked to death. Not sure how someone interested in one would consider the other. They’re night and day.
Doormat? lol. No.
Brown: work easy, play hard = high, inflated GPA while getting drugged out af
Plus they have cuter, hornier girls there
I'm no puritan, but a lower income, self-acknowledged bottom quartile (if not decile) kid doing drugs and raging is going to end badly. Overachievers from Stuyvesant and New England boarding schools can go to every darty and still ace their courses, and even if they don't, they have connections - but that's not OP.
Last year I went of a road trip of New England with my dad and hit a couple Ivies for shits and gigs, and Brown does not have cute girls imo. Chicago > Providence any day.
You'll be surrounded by brilliant people at both schools - at times it will blow your mind. Upgrade your attitude from insecure to humble but confident and your classmates will be your best source of learning. No one gets into these schools by accident. If you work hard, you'll be competitive.
Every campus will have its share of elitists who will treat others as less than, but this will usually be based on social rather than intellectual standing. Both schools are big and diverse enough where you'll meet people you're comfortable around.
Chicago is #3 US News Brown is #14
I feel like even now, and for at least the next decade or so, Brown has the Ivy League appeal to it.
UChicago sucks imo, other than their academics. It's a top tier school, but boring af. My friend tries to brag that their frat parties have assorted juice blends. Also, it is not in a great area as you know, and from my visits, you feel it. Brown is 14th which is still great and will set you up well. Any school can stimulate you intellectually, you just need to talk the right classes and people.
UChicago
So you were accepted by these two or more?
