California Powerball Winner To receive $447.8 Million Payout
Wow. Just scrolling across the news today and found this
This obviously doesn't factor in taxes, but that is an absurd amount of money. The winning ticket was purchased in a liquor and deli store, which in my opinion is a weird place to buy that ticket. (I have never bought a lotto ticket so maybe I am wrong)
The odds for this were 1 in 292.2 million, and the powerball is played in 44 states, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
From the article
April 1. Lottery site USAMega.com estimated the federal tax withholding on the figure if the $273.1 million lump sum was taken would be nearly $68.28 million, and state taxes could cost another $24.1 million (with New York the worst offender)."
The winner has not claimed it yet... picture if he/she left it in a pocket and its at the dry cleaners lol. Hopefully he/she finds the ticket and claims the winnings.
Got me thinking about what I would do with the money... after buying my parents a place in Hawaii and some new cars, I would probably take a year or two and travel in Europe and reevaluate my life and what I wanted to do. But I imagine I would want to work still, as I would get bored without having responsibility. Think if I could be a college professor teaching like intro to finance or economics could be a nice medium between hours and responsibility. Definitely wouldn't tell anyone that I won the lottery except my parents obviously.
What about you guys? What would you do if you won the powerball? The obvious answer is hookers and cocaine, but what about after that? Would you still work?
