Can someone give an overview of HK/China banking scene?
Title says it all. Would really appreciate one. There is very limited information online. What can be found is very unstructured.

Are you fluent/native in Mandarin? If so, go to Zhihu, pretty sure there are tons of info about banking in mainland China (both domestic, joint-venture and foreign-funded shops) on there. If not, not sure that banking in mainland China is right for you. Sure, I know there are some boutiques that have offices in Beijing, Shanghai, but tbh I feel those are few and far between.
I thought we have a lot of info on HK banking on this forum already...
Mandarin: Yes.
A lot of information regarding HK IBD on this forum is a bit dated. I do go to Zhihu, although fwiw people like to say random things sometimes...
To enter the Chinese domestic market you need to have connection and as they just said above if you are asking probably it's not your case. Forget it.
HK side it's like the usual US/European bank + Chinese ones. If you are currently working in US/Emea it's very likely they will move you to HK if you ask your company
I actually just came back to the area and have been working in a well-known Chinese bank's HK/US IPO team.
Don't have any connections in the industry so really appreciate any insight.
Also interested and recently been learning more. DM me if you’d like to chat sometimes.
