Career Advice + MSF Round 1

Bonjour Monkees!

I will be going to back to my ug to finish a double major in business econ & stats (6th year). I want to attend a top-MSF programs for Fall 2014.I am not IBD or bust though. I am targeting a consulting (reach) /corp fin rotational gig that I am unable to land because of my non-target status compounded by a shitty GPA. I applied to all of the top programs this year, and got dinged everywhere except for Tier 3 programs. All listed ding reasons as follows: Crappy GPA 2.75, unimpressive GMAT 660, meh ECs and WE.

Current Stats:
GPA = 2.75
GMAT = 660 (poopy verbal score)
WE = 1 fin internship (small business)
ECs = youth leader at local church

Projected Stats: (November 2013)
GPA = 2.9 - 3.1
GMAT = 730 (latest CAT = 750)
WE = 1 more fin internship (F1000) lined up for summer + currently fin intern at a small law firm
ECs = director of mkt for fin club on campus (just landed it) + research assistant for chair of stats dept

I have a few questions for the resident MSF experts.

1. Would applying early/Round 1 to all of the program improve my chances and/or secure more fin aid funds? If so, how significant would this be?

2. What would my chances be for the top programs?

Claremont (major reach, I know)
Vandy
WUSTL
Boston College
UT-Austin

3. What else can I do from now until November/October to improve my profile?

Merci!

What do you consider Tier 3 programs? Should have messaged me, I probably could have helped.

It will be a stretch at best getting into any of the programs you list above. The GMAT is fine, GPA is obviously low. You have an internship which is good. I just think you probably present yourself poorly.

PM me. I don't think all is lost.

TNA maybe you will bill able to add a little color, but when I was applying to grad programs a few years ago I noticed some only looked at GPA over the applicant's last four semesters. If his GPA over the past two school years has improved greatly targeting schools which only look at the past two years could help alleviate the GPA issues.
Of course, I would just buy in scales.
See my WSO Blog | my AMA

GPA is such a tricky point. You need to do a coupe things.

1) Explain it (family, immature, working, etc)

2) Show upward movement

3) High Major, low overall

You will want to offset this GPA with a decent GMAT, EC's and/or work experience.

Thanks for the response. The GPA is a mix of maturity and family issues. The major GPA is high, on both, but the cumulative is low. It has shown significant upward movement, Based on my projected stats, how do you think i would do? Better shot in early rounds also?
