Career change from fixed income trading assistant to real estate development associate

I am currently a trading assistant at a large IB, but looking into real estate development down south. Is there any transferable skills from my current position, or anything that will blind side me? I am early into my career and want to use the skills that come natural to me. Which skills are ideal for RE development? The position would be for multifamily housing and mix use properties.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Could you network with RE IB people in your building to learn about the industry? Even the commercial lending guys would have some insight. Another very interesting area I saw at the IB I was at were the guys doing private placements and debt/equity structuring for RE and bond deals. Very high level, but you need to understand the granular details too. That is where I would start.
