Career Resources
Some back story: I’m a New Yorker currently in Kansas City. Spent my 20’s in fitness (training, group, management) and transitioned into the family business 3 years ago. I manage do medical transcription and research for veterans disability. I’m also responsible for creating the systems for the day to day, i.e. forms and spreadsheets for medical clearances etc. (My parents will be retiring very soon)
This is what got me interested in business school.
I did not finish my undergrad in my 20’s and am currently finishing with a minor in business in KC. I’ll be done in May.
I have the opportunity to go to business school in KC (far cheaper), however the more I talk to my peers in NYC and do research, the more it seems I need to shoot for the best possible b-school for a chance in finance (or maybe consulting) considering my lack of experience and age. Unsure how to approach it to set my self up for the best chance of success.
I’m interested in FP&A for the most part. Forensic accounting is pretty interesting too. I like tracks that require you to remain focused while consuming immense amounts of data, then taking that data to create a concise picture for what’s next.
Ex: part of my job is to take a patient and research all of their records in order to prove injury while serving in order to get disability. On average these reports are 2000 pages. I’ve hade cases with 4000 page size of records to sift through and put into spreadsheets. I genuinely enjoy the grind of it.
Thanks for reading! Please don’t spare my “feelings”. I prefer honesty. The more info I have the better.
