Career Progression Tips - Real Estate Fund Management
Greetings!
I spent the last two years working in the FO of an alternative investment firm and really liked Real Estate. So i have decided to go back to school to do an MSc Real Estate Investment (Cass Business School, London).
My goal is to get into real estate fund management as an investment analyst.
Can you please provide some advice as to what i can do on the side that will give my CV a boost? CAIA? Angus Certification? REFM Certification?
Thanks in advance for your advice!

Hah, Angus certification. As someone who is certified in both AC/DC and quality beef, I highly recommend it.
I also recommend Argus certification, if for no other reason than you'll probably learn something about real estate and it looks great on a resume. Some firms swear by it, others would never waste time on it, but it won't ever hurt you. REFM is a good program and while I don't know if a "certification" will help the knowledge will.
I'd also recommend getting involved in quality organizations. I'm not entirely sure what the landscape is in England, but the Urban Land Institute is a fantastic group and resource, and there are many others as well such as ICSC, SIOR, NAIOP, USGBC, AYREP, etc. These are great for networking, making friends, getting jobs, etc.
Thanks!
any thoughts on the CAIA qualification? Will it make a real difference?
