What roles at GS are generally open to hiring non-diversity rising sophomores (current class of 2022) and can serve as a stepping stone to a junior year IBD internship?

IB. I have a non-diversity sophomore friend working in IB.
any idea how common this is/how many they take?
Not completely sure of the numbers but I met one guy one time who told me he was the only sophomore in his group when he interned so I'm guessing it's really competitive. One thing I know for sure though is that you need a really high gpa.
They only take 20 IBD sophomore interns (200 for junior interns) and the recruiting cycle for sophomores is a little pushed back compared to the junior internship. Interviews for sophomore should happen around August/September. Sources are from a campus recruiter and VP IBD. If you do a quick LinkedIn check, you'll see all the sophomore interns go to target schools so good luck with it if you're a non-target
Is it safe to assume most of those 20 sophomores are diversity candidates?
