Commercial Real Estate Broker Mentorship with Top Brokers in Office
Hi Everyone,
After undergrad I have plans on going into commercial brokerage at places like JLL/CBRE/M&M. Let's say I get an offer as a broker at JLL/CBRE/M&M and get put on a team that's above average, but not the top grossing team in my office. Since I'm new my goal is to learn, build connections, and make deals and if I have any questions I would ask people on my team, but is it frowned upon for me to look at the office, see who the top say 5 multifamily (office, retail, etc) brokers are and ask them to meet for lunch/coffee to get advice, learn about the industry and how to sell from the very best in the office.
I understand everyone is for their own team, these SVP's (FVP's, etc) are in competition with each other and the other teams in the office, but could commercial brokers on here give me insight into if they would be helpful. I see it as they're giving someone not on their team information and thus making him better and possibly losing business because of it to another team, but I also feel a lot of top producers could see themselves in my shoes and want to help.
Any insight would be helpful.
To clarify I'm specifically talking I'm in multifamily and going to talk to another multifamily team. Or I'm in office, retail, etc. But same asset class.
"Is it frowned upon" is very office-dependent. I couldn't imagine a reason it would be frowned upon to meet one on one with as many people in the company as possible, but you never know. Office politics can be weird.
I would say no, it is not frowned upon. It shows initiative and a desire to learn so long as you're not meeting with them in an attempt to join their respective teams.
Even if it's same asset class to same asset class (reaching out)? and ok thanks that what I thought
