consulting office interview
I'm a sophomore at a target and through connections at the company I'm interning for this semester, I got an interview with a partner at one of the major consulting firms in LA. We were originally supposed to have lunch, but it was changed to an office meeting since his schedule was so full.
I'm wondering if anyone else has experience with an interview such as this one. Since it's not a formal recruitment process interview, is there anything I need to know in particular? Any help would be most appreciated! I'm pretty much freaking out because this is my last chance for an internship this summer...if this fails then I'm off to summer school.
I don't have any experience in consulting. I have a fairly strong grasp of finance principles through classes that I took at school, but I haven't had an opportunity to apply them in a job as of right now.
Thanks in advance for your feedback!
They know that you don't have any experience and have only taken basic finance classes as a sophomore. Consulting firms are looking for people that are strong at problem solving, can think on their feet, and have good BS so they can be put in front of clients quickly. Just go in, be confident, let them know you are excited about the job, and turn the meeting into a conversation.
I guarantee as a sophomore intern, you will have zero client facing. Highly doubtful he will give you a case interview, just be prepared to show real enthusiasm for the job, have a strong story as to why you want to do consulting, and how you can contribute. I feel like this is going to end up being an informational...
Worst case, he tells you that they don't take sophomore interns and you can build a contact for next year internship. What school do you go to? I can't think of a "target" in the LA area unless you mean Pomona/Claremont. UCLA,maybe...
I go to Duke (which I guess isn't really a target for LA firms) but I'm doing a spring study abroad program in LA so I'm taking classes at USC this semester. Thanks for all your advice! I'm trying not to put too much emphasis on it so that I don't get so nervous I go in there and mess up the whole thing. :)
Why would you do a study abroad program in LA in order to go into consulting?
