Corporate Banking Analyst with one year experience- What salary should I expect?? UK

I am returning from working as a graduate abroad and expecting an offer in the UK for the role of an Analyst supporting a Corporate Banker in a Tier 2 bank, the role is based in the Midlands.

What salary can I expect? I had expected a minimum of around 30K as I have just over one years worth of experience, yet friends have said that I should be aiming for at least 40K as graduates for the bank in question are paid 38K starting. Yet I'm not sure if figures are this high outside of London.

I do not want to be low balled when it comes to salary discussions and have very little experience in UK Banking salaries. If anyone has any experience or advice on what salary I should expect/aim for it would be really appreciated!

not my direct field but id be surprised if a corporate banking analyst got 40k 1 year out of Uni, working in Birmingham without any certifications (CIMA, ACA etc). In London? Maybe. Presume its something like Santander / Lloyds? You can always speak to recruiters and ask them what sort of roles theyd feel comfortable putting you forward for.

Thanks for the advice moneytrail! They completely blew me out of the water and offered 24K and seem unwilling to move. I understand its regional but that is below the starting salary of most graduates in or out of finance.

I spoke to a few recruiters who said I should expect 27-35K in this region and another role outside of London I'm interviewing for have said the range would be 30-35K. It's disappointing as this role seemed to offer a lot of learning development but I have doubts about their promises if the salary is that low.

I've put 27K on the table as the lowest I will take so I suppose I will just have to wait and see...

24k does seem low. i guess brand name, progression etc does matter but still... most grad schemes in london start at 30k+ in respectable FLDPs / Big 4 audit. One thing i would do is google linkedin profiles of people with that title and see where they ended up. might give you indication of exit ops & what to expect few years down the line.
