Career Resources
Well CS's share price did dive so bankers are cheap to hire (their deferred comp is now lower than usual) from there and they all expect low bonuses this year giving them one more reason to leave. Jeffs pays mostly cash from what I hear which is great not to be tied up with stock (uncertain value) - sure their cash comes with clawbacks but effectively the same vesting as shares.
I mean we also don't know team dynamics. If junior are tied to a head and they like thier boss no reason to not continue your career with a person.
I don’t think it’s a surprise. They jumped from a bank that isn’t doing too well recently to a bank that is upward trajectory. Also, Jefferies usually has great packages for the senior bankers they hire and they also pay all cash versus a deferred component at CS. Like the other comment mentioned, CS stock performance is pretty bad rn. Even DB’a Stock is doing better. Plus, I believe FIG seems to be worse hit because they deal with financial institutions and those were the ones that caused the problems (archegos, greensill etc) not saying it was IB’s problem but still very bad optics and optics matter in IB.
Curious on Jefferies progression by title, actually. Does anyone know the typical title bands? For example, ANL 2 years, ASO 3 years, VP 3 years, DIR ~3+ years, MD, put out to pasture?
They don’t have directors. They call them Senior Vice Presidents but yes that’s correct.
I used to work at JEF - very "up and out" at the SVP level. Seen a ton of SVPs get pushed out if they don't make MD, not sure if that's consistent across the street. Not as many homegrown MDs as other banks.
