Currently working in investment consulting - what are the chances of getting a job in asset management?

Happy Saturday!
I'm currently working at an investment consulting firm (advising DB pension schemes). My day-to-day actives are client-focused and consist of reporting on the performances of investment managers, asset transfers and other ad hoc duties. I've been at my company for about nine months. It's my first role out of university. (uni background = solid red-brick, economics, 2:1) I'm also doing level I of the CFA.
My ideal job role would be related to multi-asset or fixed income security research at an asset manager. What are the chances of this happening? Is this transaction realistic and what can I do to increase the chances of this happening? I'm aware that these types of roles tend to suit people from ratings agency and banking backgrounds.
