DB Cuts 1,900 Jobs - 1,500 from IB

From DealBreaker today: http://dealbreaker.com/2012/07/layoffs-watch-12-d…

Is this a one time thing or just the beginning of a series of layoffs? Anyone industry veterans know how this is gonna impact SA recruiting/offer rate for next year?

You're probably going to get the "Unfortunately the standard was exceptionally high this year" email if you apply to DB.

"...and while your expereinces and credentials were impressive, we regret to inform you that you have not been invited to progress to the interview stage. We will, however, keep your resume on file for any future opportunities that might match your profile.

Best of luck in all your future endeavours."

hahaha this is the most round about corporate way of saying, "fuck you"

I prefer "piss off"

It looks like it's just the beginning. Wait till you see my post tomorrow. Meredith Whitney is calling for another 50,000 banking jobs cut, with the majority in IBD because the business just isn't there anymore. Dick Bové is actually calling for as many as 150,000 across the board, again with a heavy percentage of IBD.

As for getting jobs after being laid off:

Meredith Whitney:
“The problem to date has been that those that have been laid off have been sitting on their couches because they do not want to take a downgrade in pay. They are not going back to work and the longer you are out of work, the more difficult it is to get a new job. My advice to them is take what you can get. It is very hard to transfer skills from a high-paying job…so recalibrate your expectations.“
