Deloitte's Recruiting process for Tax Consulting

Hello There,

I Have applied for Deloitte Tax Consulting position. I am going on an office visit at Deloitte on17th of September but that is from my own research not part of the process. I have my first interview next month and I am wondering what is a whole process like. How many interview are meant to be and what are the components of each interview. This is very important to me as I can plan accordingly, since I have still some school left.

Your input is very much appreciated!!

Note the following applies for Big 4 interviews:

Typically there are two days for the two rounds of interviews. The first is typically on campus, and the second is typically at the firm's office. The first interview should be no longer than 45 minutes, but the other day you will have multiple interviews and probably a lunch and dinner.

The first interview is usually pretty standard. They ask you some behavioral questions (e.g., "Tell me about a time you resolved a conflict.") The purpose is to see if you can talk fluently without getting all nervous and to see if you even understand what the position is. If you pass those tests, you go on to the in-office process, where you will probably have multiple interviews. The interviewers on those days typically have a broader range of questions they will ask you. Try to make it a conversational interview.

Also, don't give out any part of your real name on WSO. It can come back to haunt you if you say something stupid here - the financial world is a small one, and people will talk.

Good luck.

Thanks a lot for an input!

I guess you have gone through this already! so is it standardized throughout big 4 that first interview is on campus? Also, you might know what's a time range for an answer after your first interview. Do you know if there is any tax consulting specific question that they ask on a first interview? or it is pretty much the same for tax and audit?
What about send interview? in case you get selected, how long it happens after the first one? How much of a technical questions do they ask in terms of tax? I read a lot about Deloitte's recruiting procedure on wikijob.co.uk and it seems way more complicated overseas than the way you described it above.
any kind of input would be extremely valuable for me!

Thanks a lot!

1) Standardized - yes 2) Time range - depends. A couple days to maybe a month. It depends on where you fall in the recruiting cycle, i.e. is your school first or last? They have to interview everybody first. 3) Pretty much the same for tax and audit 4) Time to second interview - see #2 5) Most likely 0 technical questions

I should note that I have no experience with international Deloitte recruiting.

Thank you so much 808!

What about a Case study? or so called "E-Tray"? non of those happen?
could you give me little more details when interviewin in their office?
What about partner interview? I heard that if you go that far, then it's yours to lose. Is that what you think?
Also, what do you think of commercial awareness questions? are they in a first or second interview?

Sincerely,

Hello 808, I wanted to keep you posted with how recruiting process is going, while at the same time, ask you your opinion that has been genuinely helping me out throughout this process. I was selected for the 1st round on campus interview and I successfully completed it with 2 partners after which they contacted me within 2 days and told me that I am selected for the second interview. In office interview is going to consist of Dinner the night before interview, and 3 in person interviews followed by lunch with tax staff. What do you guys think, how different is second round interview going to be from first? how are the chances to make it through second round,in compared to first? Please explain me your reasoning. I am very thankful to all of you for your inputs.

Sincerely,

First round interviews are the round where they filter out everybody who looks decent on paper but definitely won't cut it. The second rounds are less standardized. Your interviewer may just want to assess you for "cultural fit" (ie you're not socially awkward), or if he has a bunch of people he really likes he might crush you with tough questions to try to separate out a winner. My advice would be to be ready for anything, and try to connect on a personal level with your interviewers. Be ready with lots of good questions, because you don't want to run out after a lunch and multiple interviews. PM me or quote this post in your reply to tell me how it goes. Good luck.

Hello, new to this forum, but have been long time lurker. I have an offer at a mid-size Deloitte Tax office. I'm excited to work for Deloitte, but would prefer another location for family reasons. I'm a bit older (30 years old) and have several advanced degrees (not sure if this would matter at all).

Is an internal transfer realistic? I would be shooting for something in the mid-atlantic. Is this possible 6 months to one year out?

If the transfer isn't that possible, are the opportunities to be staffed on assignments away from the main office. I'm new to the Big4 and public accounting. For example, is there an internal job board with these types of opportunities?

Thanks for any help and clarification.

You got a job offer by a Big 4 firm. Do not question it. Take it. Several years into it you can apply for an internal transfer. If you raise any issue as to why you cannot or do not want this position you will damage your career. Make hay while the sun shines.
