I’m sympathetic, but don’t really know what can be done. Hopefully someone else can pitch in. Bump

Bump. Senior people, need a little help here...

2 things that I think you can do

  1. Work with Non-Profit orginasations (to help out during pandemic) to add points to your CV

  2. Communicate situation to your institute and connections and see if you can get any offers into mid office roles. Then later maybe you can switch.

Maybe ask if you can be referred to other office of bank. Other than that, sounds like you were hungry enough to get this gig, and you did well... if you keep doing that, sounds likely you'll land another one by next summer... keep hustling! If you do, it'll happen for you.

I think you gave too much information about yourself, your story is already known by some other teams in the bank, so it would be easy for anyone in the bank to know who you are, be careful please with giving that much information and also including misleading information that may damage the image of the bank.

As far as I know the bank has made offers to top performer OC interns, those that could lead to top buckets in every team and there has not been any big surprise in terms of those preferred OC interns conversion, so I would say this is a mix of having not enough senior vouch and current situation. I know this sucks but as you know past performance doesnt determine future one, having close to 100% conversion doesnt guarantee it in the future. Anyways conversion has been close to 65-70% if I am not wrong which is a very nice figure.

Furthermore more interns that did not get the offer at TMT did also got shortlisted for those calls, so it was nothing that particular. But its true that in a normal year good but not stellar interns would have been offered the offer, and its not that fair to "give away" offers to kids that have not experienced what banking really is.

Maybe they should have been more severe with them too in order to be fair with everyone... but thats another point.

The good thing is that you have a good experience that will help you to differentiate in the next recruiting season, allowing you to get another good OC or downgrsding to a lower bank for a FT offer. You are lucky to have such experience under your belt and it will definitely open doors at top banks which is a good thing for your career development.

Keep it up, dont burn bridges with your team as you may be given another opportunity and keep building relations (and that doesnt mean having +4,000 connections, but a handful of supportive ones).

Hope to see you again in the bank or to see you in a competitor. Keep your hunger for success and if your connections are really pushing enough you may get another shoot sooner than later in the bank, even if its for a lateral after 1 year.

Thanks a lot for your comments, I really appreciate. Maybe I was too blind to see the real problem of myself.

I thought I was doing very good, but maybe just not good enough to be considered as a stellar one, as you indicated, a truth that no one told me and I didn't even realise, or that I just don't want to accept in my heart.

Thanks again for your encouragement, will keep it up and do my best.

This year summers in our bank just did a case study and they all secured a return offer
