Didn't get a finance related internship after sophomore year. Chance for BB S&T?
Hey guys,
Long time lurker, first time poster. I would really appreciate your help with the following issue.
I am about to finish my sophomore year at a target / semi-target school (3.7 GPA, decent EC's). Despite searching far and wide, I did not manage to find a trading or even finance-related internship this summer, either at a bank or some company. (In addition to being a sophomore, an additional hindrance might have been that I am international student from SE Asia.) I'm still trying to find something, but I will most likely end up doing some comp sci research at my university.
Would you say that I still have a chance for BB S&T? And if so, do you have any suggestions on what could I do this summer (besides networking) to make myself a more competitive applicant?
Thanks in advance.
Have you thought about finding an internship in your home country? It is honestly so hard to break into BB in the US.
Thanks a lot for the reply!
Formal internships for university students do not really exist in my country. I guess I could cold-email a few banks, and see if they would let me work for them over the summer. This would be beneficial in terms of being able to put something finance-related on my resume.
However, if this does not work out, do you have any suggestions on what I could do / learn to make myself a more competitive applicant for next year's BB S&T recruiting cycle?
volunteering, or consider applying for off-cycle internships as they're easier to get in.
coding stuff defo helps (for trading/quant)
any loosely related internship exp helps e.g. credit cards, fp&a, strategy (these are examples i've seen of friends' backgrounds who've made it to BBs)
know a guy who did an internship at an east african country, pretty eye-grabbing stuff - and landed a BB offer
