Direct go to hedgefund or start career at IB prop trading position?

Hi all,

I got a prop trading position at a second tier bank doing Quant trading of FX. In my understanding, the prop trading side in a bank runs like a hedgefund. Then I began to think to myself: why don't I directly go to a hedgefund, instead of wasting my time at a bank doing prop trading?

Any thoughts?

Thanks a lot!

my experience is that bank prop has more resources/technology available, so that can be a good place to start. depending on the set up, you may have access to the flow desk, which can be helpful to learn about the players in the market and who is driving the price moves. i wouldn't consider it "wasting time" at all.
