Do you have a personal domain/email?

I'm thinking whether I should go create a personal domain ($15/year at GoDaddy) and host my own email ($5/month at Google Suite or Microsoft Office 365).

That way, I can have a personalized email address ([email protected]) and don't have to see ads in my inbox.

In addition, I can keep my email address forever (as long as I pay for the domain annually) and thus I won't lose important contacts (but I doubt Gmail/Outlook will be shut down any time soon).

However, I'm not sure if it's worth it. Now, $75/year is not a lot, but I feel like I could live with a free Gmail account and not spending anything. Thoughts?

I have business domains with my last name in them. Having a personal domain is fucking lame and self-important. And your Gmail game is garbage if you're getting spam.

I have one for my PE firm (lol wouldn't call it PE but best description I guess). Easiest thing to do is just use Google Domains + Gmail. I think Google Domains are available worldwide now but I might be wrong. Nothing wrong with a last name either but maybe just do something like "LASTNAME Holdings" for when you become a semi-retired real estate mogul with nothing to do all day.

Buy the domain name(s) you want but don’t purchase the email hosting unless you’ll use it.

I pay the $5/mo/acct to Google for email, but have the domains registered with Namecheap.

OP, is the primary use for this account going to be personal, and the reasoning to avoid spam emails and ads?

I am curious about this topic as well but I believe it may be for different reasons. I operate as a consultant on the side and hate communicating with partners and/or potential clients with a gmail address. Makes me feel unsophisticated. I haven't looked into it enough to really find the options besides building a small website with Wix or something similar and getting an email set up through that domain. Don't mean to hihjack the thread, just want to clarify why you're looking into this and see if we may be looking for similar information.

If the primary use would be for personal, I would say stick to Gmail and get on top of spam email. Google isn't going anywhere
