Yeah I've thought a lot about this as both an alcoholic and a man of discerning taste. Does anyone like the taste of weed? Would you smoke it if it didn't do anything? Probably not, but people won't shut up about how a smoke tastes like peaches. No dawg it tastes like smoke.

Anyway, to me, it isn't necessarily the taste you're enjoying; you're enjoying the experience of exploring nuance. A lot of hobbies and interest are, at their core, exploring nuance. So us humans - we got together and decided that life is hard and we like how alcohol makes us feel. We're going to be seeking out this feeling for the foreseeable future. How can we do it in an interesting fashion since we're doing it anyway? Well let's do a bunch of fun shit like age this shit in this kind of barrel and combine that digestif with that juice and see what happens. Everything that lies upstream the being drunk has nuance and can be explored. That can be fun.

I think anyone that doesn't get drunk every time they drink would say yes

Pretty good answer

I would 100% still drink quality Italian red wine if it wasn't alcoholic. Hell, I'd most definitely drink more of it.

Reverse, if there was no taste in alcohol but it still had the effects, would you do it?

I actually attended a party like this in High School. It was the most wasted I had ever gotten by far.

Someone grabbed a vat of Novocaine from a dentist office and people were taking shots of liquor with the novocaine. I tried it (you rub the back of your mouth and it goes numb) and it was crazy. It tasted just like water!! I chugged a large amount of whiskey and then threw up in my friend's brand new Honda Civic Si. Yes, he was Asian. Yes, he was very pissed.

I blacked out though so I don't remember much except waking up in an ant pile on the concrete in front of his house. Apparently he was so pissed that he wouldn't let me sleep inside - pretty rough but ok. That was one of the worst splitting hangover headaches I've ever gotten. I've only had 3-4 real bad splitting headaches waking up and that was the first.

I couldn't decide whether this was Helpful or Funny. Pretty sure I was laced with some alternative substances in my time abroad at less-than-reputable establishments such as private room karaoke bars. Couldn't feel or remember anything but got some sweet pictures on my phone.

Be excellent to each other, and party on, dudes.
